Author and playwright, Lawrence Poindexter was born in Evergreen, Alabama, the seventh of eight children born to a World War II Navy veteran (father) and a dedicated and devoted homemaker (mother). While his father admirably completed an 18-month tour of duty in the South Pacific, Poindexter was enjoying his elementary school years where he developed a love for acting and indulged his vivid imagination by eagerly participating in Christmas, Easter and School plays. In 2012, Poindexter was inspired by the Lord Jesus Christ in a vision to create a story for a film script entitled "UnRevealed: 3 Days in Hades". The film depicts in graphic detail what actually happened in the three days from Jesus' death on the cross to his resurrection.
This revelation came about as a result of the author listening to a sermon by Creflo Dollar, senior pastor of World Changers International Church located in College Park, Georgia. Shortly after the revelation, the playwright penned the script and began actively interviewing and meeting with individuals to write the screen play. During the summer of 2013, Poindexter began working with a professional screen writer to create and format the script for the big screen. After numerous edits and revisions, the film's trailer was produced and distributed, eventually catching the attention of several industry professionals. Consequently, in 2016 Poindexter submitted "UnRevealed: 3 Days In Hades" in the Short Film category at the Urban Action Film Festival in New York City for which it received an award for "Best Non-Fiction/Supernatural".
Poindexter is very active in ministry in his local church, St. Mark AME Church and continues to enjoy his service as a Sunday School/Bible Class teacher for which he has served for the past 31 years. As a servant leader, Poindexter's personality exemplifies the Christian character - kind, considerate, uplifting, forward- thinking, encouraging, helpful, hopeful and always positive.
Poindexter is a retired educator in the area of science, technology engineering and math (STEM), with 38 years in urban and rural school systems. He is also married and has two adult children.
